A native of Columbia, Jackie was born August 14, 1935 the daughter of Edwin Otis and Cora Lee Player. She grew up in the Olympia Mill Hill area and was a member of the 1953 graduating class at Olympia High School. Jackie retired from BellSouth after 41 years of service and was an avid volunteer with the Pioneers of America. She will be remembered for the way she loved life and those with whom she shared it. Her love for God, family, and her friends defined who she was. She was an active member of Greenlawn Baptist Church where she served on many committees, including Deacon. Jackie loved the beach and shagging on the boardwalk which eventually led to her induction into the SC Shaggers Wall of Fame. She also enjoyed babysitting for families throughout the Columbia area and supporting her grandchildren in their many activities. You could often find her cheering for her Clemson Tigers, having “her hair fixed”, or shopping at Chico’s.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin Otis Player, Cora Lee Player and her niece, Karen Peake Dill. Survivors include her daughter, Terri Reed (Doc); two grandchildren, Houston Reed and Rollins Reed; sister, Lois Peake; a brother, Eddie Player (Carol); a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Barbara Houston; three nephews, John Peake, Barry Peake (Kathy), Darrin Player (Lisa); and a niece, Angie Lopez (Jeff).
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Lexington Medical Center for their thoughtful and compassionate care.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Greenlawn Baptist Church.
