Howard Weiss

COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Howard Weiss, 79, will be held at 1:00 on Thursday, October 6, 2016, in Hebrew Benevolent Society Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Weiss, widower of Mrs. Nancy Love Weiss died Tuesday, October 4, 2016. He passed away peacefully at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Born on July 9, 1937 in Bronx, New York, he was a son of the late Stanley Weiss and Nettie Ravner Weiss. In the mid 60s, Howard left his family business in High Point, North Carolina to move to Columbia to join his wife’s family business, Love Chevrolet. He started his own business, Heritage Chevrolet Buick and GMC in 1988. Howard was a lifelong member of the Board of Tree of Life Congregation. He held positions from Treasurer to President to Executive Director of Tree of Life congregation, Columbia Jewish Community Center (C.J.C.C.), the Jaycee’s, and United Way, as well as many others. Howard was also a charter member of Wildewood Country Club. He received numerous awards from his lifetime of community service and was always willing to donate his time and money to any civic, charitable or community related organization. He loved his family, friends, golf, collegiate and professional sports, serving the community, and his Tarheels. He always looked forward to holidays and birthdays or any event to get together with family and friends. Surviving are his daughters, Mindy Watkins (Keith) and Jodi Beckham (Chris) both of Columbia; sons, Wayne Weiss (Sarah) and Todd Weiss (Heather) both of Columbia; and grandchildren, Wallace, Chloe, Wilkins, Lizzy, Robert, Kate, and Sam. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Renee Rollins.
