A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Hester was born October 25, 1934 in Spartanburg, the daughter of Charles Hayes and Ruby K. Griffin. While working as a Stenographer at Donaldson AFB she met her future husband, James W. Smith and they were married in May of 1956. Truly a master of all trades, she worked many jobs in her life including; Real Estate sales, owned and operated Smith Ceramic Studios in Summerville from 1970-1985 and was a World Book Encyclopedia saleswoman all while tending to her most important job of being a mother. Hester enjoyed cake decorating, her flower garden, and sewing and was an avid QVC/ HSN shopper.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband, James W. Smith. Survivors include her sons; Mark W. Smith (Mary Ann), Scott A. Smith (Mary Catherine), six grandchildren; Daniel Smith, Marie Weatherford (Jack), Matthew Smith, Melissa Smith, Jim Smith and Emily Babbitt (Josiah), one great-grandchild, Lily Weatherford, and a brother, Charles Griffin.
