Columbia: A funeral service for Harold Edgar Ross, 94, of Columbia, will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Windsor United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Tony S. Rowell officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service beginning at 10 o’clock. The family has suggested memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, SC Division, 128 Stonemark Ln., Columbia, SC 29210 or to Windsor Lake United Methodist Church, 9500 Windsor Lake Blvd, Columbia, SC 29223.
Mr. Ross died on Saturday, June 25, 2011. He was born in Columbia, SC, August 14, 1916. He was married to Angeline Norris of Sumter, SC, who preceded him in death. He was a son of the late John Leslie Ross and Sadie Sallie Ross of Columbia, SC. He finished his schooling in Columbia, SC.
Harold was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church in Columbia. He served on the Administrative Board, also as Chairman of the Trustee Board, treasurer of the Methodist Men’s’ Club and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Scottish Robert Burns Society of the Midlands, the Columbia Northeast Lions Club, where he served as president, also zone chairman, and District Deputy Governor of Zone 2. Harold was employed by The State newspaper for twenty-eight years, resigning as production manager and accepting a position with the Tampa Tribune in Tampa, FL.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Louise (David) Casey of FL, and Mrs. Sallie Weaver of Reading, PA; two grandchildren, David Paul (Debra) Casey of Parkersburg, WV, Ruth Marie Casey of Ithaca, NY; one great grandson, John Ross Greenberg of Ithaca, NY; brother, Wilbur Ross of Columbia, SC; as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl, J.L., Ashby, and Bobby Ross.
