He was a graduate of Ferris State University. In 2005, Don retired from the University Of South Carolina School Of Medicine as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus and the Associate Dean for Basic Science. In his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf at the Columbia Country Club.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, and son, Paul.
Surviving are his children, Michael Allen, Mark Allen, and Kelley Keel (Byron); grandchildren, Ryan, Erik, Ty, and Ashley Allen, Katie Cox (Jonathan), Kimberly Hill (Blake), and Christopher Keel (Marina); and great grandchildren, Evelyn and Hudson Orrie Cox, and Sophie and Braxton Hill.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel at 4219 Hard Scrabble Rd, Columbia, SC 29223.
