Dennis Bruce Oliver

Born in Union, S.C. in 1947, he grew up in Williston, S.C., leaving to pursue his love of sports. He excelled at them all, but his passion was always golf. His professional accomplishments were many and varied, culminating as a Master Professional with the PGA, of which there are a handful of peers. Bruce spent a rich lifetime teaching others quiet lessons about golf, and family, kindness and honor, and always… love. His spirit of adventure sparked extensive travels both here and abroad. I never tired of watching him discover the world. Golf at St. Andrews was his bucket list highlight. Bruce was the kindest man I know. He was loved and respected by every single person he met. He was a Prince among men.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Peggy, and his two brothers, Kenneth and Darryl. He is survived by his wife, Kim Oliver of the home; his sister, Lawana Hinton of Columbia; his daughter, La’La (Ray) Westall of Columbia; his son, Lance Oliver (Emily) of Atlanta; grandchildren, Haley, Tyler and Bella Westall, all of Columbia; numerous nieces and nephews.

As he would have loved, a casual celebration of life will be held at 6115 Poplar Ridge Road in Columbia, on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from noon until four. In his honor, we’ll enjoy S.C. barbecue (from noon until two), the requisite chocolate, and some righteous Motown tunes. There may or may not be a putting contest as well.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his name to the Cure PSP respite fund, found at psp.org/ineedsupport/respiteservices. Bruce was blessed to have a strong network of support all around him. Others may not be so fortunate.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Agape Hospice, whose quiet support at the end was immeasurable.
