Barbara Jean Ward of Columbia, SC, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021. She grew up in Columbia and graduated from Columbia High School. She earned her Master’s in Education from the University of South Carolina. She was a greatly loved art teacher in Lexington District 2 where she taught at Fulmer Middle School. After her 30 year teaching career, she was employed with the Riverbanks Zoo as an artist.
Barbara loved to write poetry, paint and travel throughout the United States as well as overseas. She loved ancient civilizations and participated in archeological digs. She was a true “Flower Child” who was known for her luminous gentle personality and great taste in music.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Melanie Ward; her siblings, Harriett Miller, Harold Miller, Jr. and Sharon Miller. She was predeceased by her parents, Harold T. Miller, Sr. and Ione Miller.
Barbara was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Her legacy as a caring teacher and wonderful person lives on in all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
