Mrs. Audrey Birchmore, born February 14, 1946, in Warrington, England-UK, went to her heavenly home on March 26, 2025. She was the daughter of James Acton Weems and Vera Betty Summerfield Weems. Mrs. Birchmore was a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Columbia, SC, but also loved to worship with Rev. Wes Church and First Baptist Church of Columbia.
She was a longtime employee of BellSouth in yellow page advertising sales, earning accolades in top sales and customer service as well as numerous awards for “Salesperson of the Year.” Later in her career, she was a top sales performer and customer satisfaction favorite in classified advertising for The State newspaper in Columbia. Even past her retirement, her love for helping others and attention to details made her an exceptional asset to these companies and her coworkers and clients continue to remember her fondly with many funny and heartwarming words of how she touched so many lives.
Always the entertainer, Audrey never missed the opportunity to make you laugh. Whether spinning a yarn at her own expense or sharing stories about her beloved family and friends, she could hold a room at attention. She would spin off on one of her hilarious tales, (quite often embellishing the details!) and leave herself and all those around her in tears of laughter. She was loving, deeply caring and generous with all she had and all she knew. It was often said, “Audrey never met a stranger!” and you knew this to be true. With her southern accent and sweet charm, you could have just met her yet swear you’ve known her forever. Everyone was a “Sweetheart”, a “Darling” or a “Baby” to Audrey. In fact, if she called you by your given name, you were probably shocked and worried what you did wrong!! She was a gift and a blessing given to us all. She loved with her heart and soul and was dearly loved and admired in return.
Of course, she would always tell you her greatest blessings in life was her family. She loved her family and looked over each and every one of us with pride and joy. She loved and adored all of her grandchildren, spoiling them with her love. She especially enjoyed spending time with her youngest grandchild, Chandler Jones, and could talk about him for hours. Chandler and his grandma were exceptionally close, and there is no doubt that she will continue to watch over him and love him all the days of his life. She would want him and all her grandchildren, to live their best life and to remember all the fun times and special moments that she shared with them all.
Our beloved Audrey was predeceased in this life by her parents, James and Vera Weems; her brother, James David Weems; her twin sister, Elaine Weems Crider; and recently, her beloved granddaughter, Haley Nicole Meetze.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert Maddison Birchmore; her daughter, Vera Elizabeth “Betty” Edwards and husband, Cleve; her son, William Edward “Bill” Jones and wife, Donya; her beloved grandchildren, Drew, Michelle, Casey, Chandler, Taylor and Ryan; her nephews, Ronnie Dawkins and wife, Jeuli, Chris Dawkins and wife, Lisa and John Dawkins and husband, Wilbur. Also, her sisters-in-law, Pat, Lissa and Laurie Birchmore; along with all her many nieces and nephews.
