Sarah Kathleen Yarbrough

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 1pm at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Sarah Kathleen Hudson Lott Yarbrough of Columbia who passed away peacefully in her home on August 14, 2010. Rev. Wayne Ward and Rev. Thomas Thurman will officiate. Visitation will be ache Colonial Funeral Home from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday before the service. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Kathleen was born march 19, 1926 in New Orleans to Dewey and Lela Bennett Hudson. She grew up in the Improve community and graduated from Improve High School in 1943. Although she held many jobs throughout her life, she was a beautician first and foremost. She operated her own beauty shop in Columbia in the early 50s and worked for many years as a beautician in Jackson. She moved to California in 1955, but returned to Mississippi in 1963. She lived in Jackson for 32 years until she moved back to her beloved Columbia in 1995,. She married first Alton "Jack" Lott of Columbia in 1943. They divorced in 1952. Her second husband was James Yarbrough of Marion County to whom she was married for over 43 years until his death in 1998.

She was Accomplished working with needlecraft having created many works of art which she shared with friends and relatives. She was a farmer's daughter who loved to grow her own vegetable garden and took pride in her home and beautiful plants. Her true passion was cooking and she loved life most when she was in her kitchen trying out a new recipe or perfecting an old one. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia where she was active in her Sunday School class and other church projects.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Lott (Deborah) of Arlington, VA; and grandchildren, Kathleen Smith (Ryan) of Annapolis, MD, Samantha Smith (Ryan) of Virginia Beach, BA, and Alyssa Lott of New York, NY, and great grandson, Tyler. Also Surviving her are sisters-in-law, Janelle Hudson and Dot Rankin, both of Columbia; brother-in-law, Harry Polk of Napa, CA; as well as a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alton Lott; twin infant daughters, Sarah and Sylvia; her second husband James Yarbrough; Her parents; and her sister and brothers, Vera Mae Grinder, Alton Hudson, Henry Hudson, and Lottie Everett "Pete" Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in her memory be made to th General Fund, First Baptist Church, Columbia, Ms. Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia, Ms. is in charge of the arrangements.
