It is with great sadness to announce our family patriarch, Richard Lavern Stogner, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the age of 89 years old. He was born in Walthall County in Mississippi and lived most of his life in Marion County.
Mr. Stogner was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Glen Harrell Stogner; parents, Hickman Stogner and Angie McMichael Stogner; and brothers, Windell Stogner, and Trellis Stogner. He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Pamela Todd, and Peggy Gates, both of Foxworth, MS; and his son, Richard Stogner, Jr (Jeannett) of Alma, AR; six grandchildren, Malanie Dyer (Chris), Shannon Rose (Jeremy), Ryan Ryals (Crystal), Wade Gates, Elyse Taber (James), and Stephen Stogner (Esther); six great-grandchildren, Preston Rose, Haleigh Rose, Taytum Ryals, Bryson Taber, Brantlee Thomas, and Jameson Gates; and numerous extended family and friends.
Richard served more than 21 years in the US Army and retired as Master Sergeant, and worked with the Marion County School System where he also retired.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa, too. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Richard was a member of Turnage Chapel Congregational Methodist Church.
“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we loved deeply becomes part of us.” We love you Daddy!
Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday, July 17, 2023 and a Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Turnage Chapel Congregational Methodist Church, Foxworth, MS. Reverend Ronnie Morgan will officiate services and interment will follow at Turnage Chapel Cemetery assisted by Jimmy Stogner, Tony Stogner, Chuck Harrell, Ryan Ryals, Wade Gates, and Stephen Stogner as pallbearers. Following the interment, all are invited to join the Stogner family for a reception at the church fellowship hall.
