Nelia Gail Batson, of the Pine Burr Community in Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the age 72. She was born in Columbia to Vennis and Katherine Kendrick and has remained a lifelong resident of Marion County. Nelia loved her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She enjoyed gardening, plants, watching birds, reading, and cooking. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her potato salad and her pound cake. She was soft spoken, patient, humble, and kind. Nelia was a woman of deep faith and read her Bible every day. She served her community and her Lord through her membership with Pine Burr Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vennis Kendrick and a brother, Dwight Kendrick. Nelia is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Louis Wayne Batson; a daughter, Pamela Bennett and her husband, Clay; her mother, Katherine Kendrick; three sisters, Shelia Sumrall, Debra Thornhill and her husband, Vance, and Kathi Stinnett and her husband, Randy; a brother, Dwaine Kendrick; a grandson, Tommy Bennett; a great-grandson, Elliott Bennett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for Nelia at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Allen Turnage, will be at Pine Burr Baptist Church on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00am where friends may visit with the family from 10:00am until service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery assisted by Jamie Breakfield, Tanner Breakfield, Timmy Jones, Tim Culpepper, Jeff Cooper, Jeremy Cooper, Mack Davis, and David Miller serving as pallbearers.
