Mary Lou Hammond, of Columbia, Mississippi, was fully healed and present with the Lord on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the age of 81. She was one of six children born to Everett and Alice Moree and has been a lifelong resident of Columbia. Mary Lou worked as a seamstress with Rutter-Rex Manufacturing. She was a Christian and a member of North Columbia Baptist Church. Mary Lou was devoted to her family. She cared for others deeply and always helped anyone with a need. Mary Lou will be remembered for her caring, generous, and giving spirit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Jerry Johnson; a brother and sister-in-law, Clifton and Patsy Moree; and a brother, Edward Moree. Mary Lou is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Tom S. Hammond; a sister, Dorothy Dowdy (Lawrence); a brother, Robert Moree (Nelda); a sister-in-law, Eunice Moree; and nine nieces and nephews, Chris Moree (Julie), Dale Moree (Melanie), Mike Dowdy (Susan), Kenny Dowdy (Becky), Cindy Hurt (Scott), Janet Hutson (Charles), Randy Johnson (Lisa), Leisha Mohn (Rich), and Karen Smith (Chad).
There will be a funeral service to celebrate the life of Mary Lou at Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 11:00am. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00am until service time. She will be laid to rest in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
