George “Terry” Thomas, of the Hurricane Creek Community in Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the age of 72. He was born in Columbia, Mississippi to Willard and Merlie Thomas and has remained a lifelong resident of Marion County. Terry was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Engineering. He spent his entire career working in the oil and gas industry and retired after working 40 years with Chevron. He was a Master Mason with the Epley Lodge in Oak Grove. He loved dairy farming and enjoyed time on his tractor baling hay. Terry was a faithful servant of God who served his community and his Lord through his membership with Hurricane Creek Baptist Church where he lead the security team and served as a Deacon. He loved his church and his community and was delighted for opportunities to cook for them. Terry was devoted to his family and will be remembered for the deep love he had for his wife, children, and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Graham; and a brother-in-law, Dannon "Danny" Cole. Terry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy Thomas; a daughter Vanessa David and her husband, Ben; a sister, Tammie Lazette Everett and her husband, Jack; a brother, Sammy Thomas and his wife, Linda; four grandchildren, Anna Catherine Miller and her husband, Colby, Cassidy Merle Graham, Wyatt David, and Will David; a son-in-law, Jason Graham; a sister-in-law, Debbie Cole; his faithful canine companion, Possum; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for Terry at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Zachary Smith, will be at the church on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 10:00am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery assisted by Jason Graham, Colby Miller, Rusty McKenzie, Jake Thompson, Wyatt David, Will David, Jody Thomas, and Nate Stafford. Jack Everett, Shane Cole, Logan Thomas, and Rick Adcox will serve as honorary pallbearers.
