Betty J. Broom

Betty J. Broom, age 78 of Columbia, MS passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at Marion General Hospital. She worked more than 20 years as a seamstress at Rutter-Rex and was a faithful member of Faithway Baptist Church.

Mrs. Broom was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Prine and Edna Mae Randall Prine; sisters, Alice Broom, and Merle Hollis; and a brother, Wayne Prine. She is survived by her husband, Bill Broom of Columbia; two sons, Tim Broome (Bobbie) of Gadsden, AL, and Jeff Broom (Jessica) of Columbia; six sisters, Sylvia Sandford, Ruby J. Broom, Linda Cox, and Janice McAlister (Kenny), all of Columbia, Nita Cook of Pachuta, MS, and Judith Prine of Bassfield, MS; two brothers, Ralph “Bo” Prine (Becky) of Columbia, and Johnny Prine of Bassfield; six grandchildren, Audria Bishop, Tyler Broom, Tanner Broom, Javen McDermit, Hayden Hobgood, and Kaylee Broom; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Broom will be at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Faithway Baptist Church with Brother Brent Robbins, Brother Joe Lott, and Brother Everette Broome, officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time. Burial will follow at the church cemetery assisted by Tyler Broom, Tanner Broom, Richard Broom, Justin Bishop, Jett Broom, Mark Broom, Sydney Broom, and Rance Broom as pallbearers.
