Virginia was born in Columbia, MO to Mack M. and Hannah R. (Stahl) Jones. Virginia graduated from University High School in 1947, then attended and graduated from Christian College, now Columbia College, in 1949. She then attended MU and obtained a B.S. in Education in 1951 and did graduate work in Social Work, Education, and Art. Virginia worked during her college summers for Hull House Association in Chicago at their summer camp for inner-city children. This was a formative experience in her life. Virginia was a Navy wife and worked as a licensed social worker in Alameda Co in California and lived in various other cities while her husband Val Sinclair was in the service.
She taught for 28 years for Columbia Public Schools, and was the kindergarten teacher at Field Elementary School. For 25 years she was Financial Advisor and House Corporation Treasurer for Chi Omega Sorority on the MU Columbia campus. Her honorary society memberships included Mortor Board, Pi Lambda Theta, Delta Kappa Gamma (all for education), and Delta Phi Delta (for art). Virginia was a member of The PEO Sisterhood, The Margaret Elwang Circle of Kings Daughters, Missouri Teachers Association, and Boone County Retired Teachers. She attended The Crossing Church, and prior to that Evangelical Free Church of Columbia. She grew up in the 1st Christian Church of Columbia.
Her talents and hobbies included miniatures and dollhouses, tea parties, Jane Austen, reading mysteries and favorite authors, and doing puzzles. She gave encouragement to new teachers and prospective teachers, visited the sick, blessed people with food, and was a lifelong MU Tiger fan. She held many backyard picnics and supported her children and grandchildren with her time and financial abilities.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, Valvin R. Sinclair, and siblings, Donald Q. Jones and Marjorie Geist.
Virginia's hope was in heaven and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be sorely missed but we are grateful for God's protection and provision for her throughout her life, and look forward to seeing her again, in glory. She would want all her friends and family to know that she is reunited with many who have gone before her. She is survived by brother in law, Angus Sinclair and her 2 daughters, Becky Bramon (ex Kerry) and Debby Jones (Terry), both of Columbia, and their families. The grandchildren and spouses include Laura (Matt) Hassan, Joni Bramon, Julie (Garrett) Bradford, Betsy Bramon (Thomas Yonker), Will (Krystal) Chapman, David (Kristyn) Chapman, Ashley (Cody) Hicks, and Caleb (Jessica) Jones. Great Grandchildren are Oliver, Lucy, Davey, Leo, Dylan, Ryann, and Brynn; and Callaway and Linnaea.
In her final years she resided at Lenoir as an active and appreciative member of that community. Dr. Joni Bramon (granddaughter) gave programs on travels. Her grandchildren visited many times and her daughters lovingly cared for her in her final years.
