Margaret was born May 5, 1928, in Spartanburg, SC, a daughter of Claude James Broom and Grace Frazee Broom. She was the forth of nine children. She grew up in Knoxville, TN where she attended Inskip Grade School. She graduated Central High School in 1946. She attended the University of Tennessee but transferred to the University of South Carolina. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1951 and returned to Knoxville.
She married Robert “Bob” Brock in 1952, and from this union three children, Sharon, Patricia “Susan” and Robert “Bobby” Jr, were born.
She worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. She was proud of her work at the laboratory post WWII. After she married Bob they moved to Fort Hood, TX where Bob was stationed in the Army during the Korean War. After the birth of their daughter Sharon, in 1954, they moved to Wilmington, NC. Shortly after their moved they welcomed their second daughter Susan in 1955. While living in Wilmington she started her teaching career. She taught high school English, Latin and Greek and was in charge of the cheerleading squad. They had their son Bobby in 1959. They moved to River Falls, WI in 1960. She again taught English and Latin in a small town, Ellsworth, WI. In 1970 they moved to Columbia, MO. After a year of selling Avon, she began teaching English at Okland Jr. High. She taught there until her retirement in 1993.
After retirement her and Bob traveled the world. Her favorite place to visit was Australia. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Lions Club, AAUW, and Missouri Retired Teachers.
Surviving Margaret are her Husband Bob of the home; one brother, Julian “Joe” Broom of Knoxville, TN; two children, daughter Sharon Sessions (Gerald); daughter, Susan Daniel; five grandchildren, Jonathan Sessions (Carrie Gartner), Sara Sessions of Knoxville, TN, Jennifer Sirois (Shaun), Sean Daniel of San Diego, CA, and Spencer Brock; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Ashlynn Sirois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Tim Broom, Bill Broom, Bobby Broom, Jack Broom; three sisters, Betty Mellott, Doris Jean “Peggie” Miller and Patty Sue Broom; and a son, Robert “Bobby” Brock, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church.
