Doreen C. Frappier, 66, of Columbia, MO passed away at home with her family by her side after a long illness. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 am, Saturday, July 6th at Memorial Funeral Home (1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO). Funeral service will begin at 11:30 am followed by burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Doreen was born March 5, 1958 in Cleveland, OH. She was the eldest of four children to David and Carmella (Gomez) Fulmer. She was a 1976 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School in Elyria, OH. After high school, she attended The Ohio State University and began working as a Veterinary Technician. Later, she furthered her education in Histotechnology. Doreen met her future husband, Brian Frappier, while working at Lakeshore Animal Hospital in Mentor, OH, and they married on September 3, 1983 in Columbus. In 1988, Brian accepted a teaching position at the University of Missouri and they moved to Columbia. Doreen also worked for the University as a Histotechnologist in both part-time and full-time capacities. Her most important job was raising her four children as a stay-at-home Mom.
Doreen’s biggest passion was animals - more specifically, her dogs. She trained her dogs for many years, creating an unbreakable bond with them while developing their skills from obedience to therapy work. She was a member of Ann Gafke’s Teacher’s Pet Drill Team where she performed routines to music at local schools, nursing homes, and charitable events. You could often find Doreen and her therapy dog at Daniel Boone Regional Library’s Reading to Rover. She also competed in multiple dog sports and was an instructor for the 4-H dog project. She enjoyed her dogs, loved her family, and had a passion for bringing joy to others. She was a loving wife, dedicated mother, an advocate for the visually impaired, and avid volunteer.
She is survived by her husband, Brian Frappier; children, Aaron Frappier of Brandon, FL, Matt Frappier of Columbia, Ryan Frappier of Sunnyvale, CA, and Allison Frappier of Lake St. Louis; siblings, Mark Fulmer of Fredericksburg, VA, Cheryl (Wayne) Lunger of Richmond, VA, and Thomas (Rhonda) Fulmer of Spotsylvania, VA; many nieces and nephews, and a loving extended family; and her beloved Schipperke, Cole and Border Collie, Nike. She was preceded in death by her parents.
