Carol Irene Notbohm

Carol was born September 13, 1934, in Janesville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Walter and Luella Ellis. She married Rex Notbohm, her high school sweetheart, on September 11, 1954.

Carol was devoted to early childhood education and founded Countryside Nursery School in 1979. The school became of labor of love for Carol and Rex as they transformed the Old Methodist Church into the perfect little school for young minds to learn, explore and develop a lifelong love of learning. Countless children flourished under her watchful eye. She retired in 1999, and the school still thrives today.

Carol turned her passions to gardening in retirement and lovingly cultivated many prize winning flowering plants. She was a member of the Columbia Garden Club and volunteered at the United Methodist Church library.

Due to Covid restrictions, a private graveside service will be held on Monday, May 10th. The Service will be livestreamed with a link that will be posted through Memorial Funeral Home, www.MemorialFuneralHomeColumbia.com. A public Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

Survivors include her husband Rex; her children: Debbie (Christopher) Hawf, Diane (Joseph) Stratmann and Dawn (Thomas) Dugan; her grandchildren: Adam (Lauren) Hawf, Matthew (Clare) Stratmann, Katherine (Ian) Buckler, Reagan Dugan and Ryan Dugan; her great grandson Alexander Hitt Hawf; and her sister, Elizabeth Shuman.

She was preceded in death by one son, Dean Notbohm; one grandson, Scott Hawf; and her brother, Robert Ellis.
