Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Parkade Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Parkade Baptist Church, with Pastor Terry Hunsaker officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery near Sturgeon.
CT was born on July 15, 1927, in Boone County, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Letha Blanche (Barnes) Spene, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on May 17, 1946 in Topeka, Kansas, to Anna Belle Roberts, who preceded him in death on June 1, 2016, shortly after they celebrated their 70th anniversary.
CT worked in a variety of jobs: as a meat cutter at Charlie’s IGA in Sturgeon; as a janitor for Russell Boulevard School of Columbia Public Schools; he sold hardware for Sear’s in Columbia for just under 20 years; and in his semi-retirement he delivered prescriptions for D & H Drugstore. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and making things in his workshop. His most precious and important relationship was with his Lord and Savior. CT was a member of Parkade Baptist Church and a deacon there for over 40 years.
He is survived by three children: Carol Jean (Carl) McKenzie of Hartsburg, Sandra Elaine (Roger) Sanders of Madison, and Arthur “Kevin” (Darla) Spene of Columbia; three grandchildren, John McKenzie, Jason Spene, and Daniel Spene; two great-grandchildren, Calleigh Spene and Gracelynn Oberhaus-Spene; niece Janette Steed and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, one who died at birth and Arthur Wilson Spene; one sister, Faye Mayvene “Peggy” Vincent; and one daughter, Phyllis Ann Spene, who passed away on September 23, 1948.
