John Francis Mastranadi

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 29,1945, John grew up in Middle Village, Queens. He attended Brooklyn Tech and earned his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from New York Institute of Technology before relocating to Endicott, NY with his bride, Marilyn, to embark on his new career with IBM. Over the course of 30 years, he contributed to the development of many systems of significance for the space program and the defense of our great nation. John earned his M.S. degree in Computer Science from SUNY Binghamton along the way.

John had a beautiful life with his sweetheart, Marilyn, for 51 years and was the consummate family man. Together, they raised three children and proudly put them through college. He was an avid reader, sports enthusiast and New York Yankees fan, self-taught craftsman and handyman, and for twenty years, he enjoyed sailing his 30-foot sloop Anna Lisa on the Long Island Sound. Every week he would diligently work to solve the cryptoquote in the local paper. There weren’t many codes he couldn’t break.

After retirement, John loved the warm sun and coastal living on Florida’s Gulf Coast. For the last 23 years, he cherished the time with his six grandchildren. He constantly travelled up and down the east coast for birthdays, holidays, school events, tailgates, football games, and graduations. The grandchildren nicknamed him “Pa”, short for Grandpa John.

John will be missed by so many, especially his children, Michele (& Jeff) Clancy, Amy (& Christopher) Hammond, JT (& Robyn) Mastranadi, his treasured grandchildren, Tyler Clancy; Emily, Kate and Madeline Hammond; and Levon and Harrison Mastranadi, his sister Dorothy (& Bill) DeMaria, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all the loving friends in the Park Forest community in Englewood.

The family intends to honor John’s legacy of education, hard work, and the pursuit of excellence.

A celebration of John's life is being planned for a future date.
