I was very saddened to hear of Jane's passing.  We worked closely together throughout the pandemic and she is one of those special people that I am happy I was able to call a friend.  I will always remember her teasing me because I pronounced the candy Gushers by the name of Gooshers.  Rest in peace, my friend.   James W.

Jane will be greatly missed. My husband, Red Spillan and I, saw Jane on a daily basis, since she was our neighbor.  She was such a sweet person. God bless her🙏🙏🙏

Jane was the kindest soul and had an amazing sense of humor. We shared so many fun memories growing up and one of my fondest memories is when we made up a song called “Sanitary Sewer.” We were in lower school, walking around McDonogh’s campus, when we found a “sanitary sewer” on the sidewalk. Naturally, we made up a song and laughed hysterically. We continued to reference our song throughout our McDonogh days and we continued to sing together in Rock Shop, Concert Choir, and Women of Note. To know Jane was to truly love her. She brightened every room and always made everyone smile. I am sending so much love to everyone who knew and loved Jane, especially her loving family.

We loved Jane since she was a tiny, adorable baby.  She grew up to be smart , talented, compassionate and kind.   Her beautiful smile could light up a room.

Jane was a gift we all cherished.  Visiting across the miles with you and Jane was all too rare but always joyful.  She is deeply missed but will live forever in our memories of time spent together and the loving stories you shared.

Sending so much love to everyone who loves Jane and deep condolences to the family! Jane was one of my first friends at McDonogh. I remember her as a true friend: someone who stood up for others, was accepting, a safe person to confide in, and always helping to make things more enjoyable. Many positive memories have come to mind upon hearing this sad news. The bonds of friendship last forever. Rest well old friend, thank you for being you.

Jane Jordan Solberg:

My husband Charles “Scotty” Scott and I (Barbara Wright) met Jane while she was in college and her family came to some of our annual December holiday gatherings on Thicket Lane.  After Jane joined her Mom, Judith, in their Watermark  residence in  2020,  we had some more contact with Jane

Jane and Judith enjoyed walking.  Often, they walked outside on beautiful Columbia pathways.  When the weather was not conducive to outside, we often walked with Judith in the mall.  Sometimes, Jane joined us.  For about two years before Jane’s death, we sometimes walked with Jane and Judith and our friend Jean Smith and enjoyed coffee afterwards. Jane enjoyed those events. The times that Jane felt well enough to join us, she enjoyed discussing medical issues and her nursing experiences.  She had a very appreciative audience! 

Jane had a keen intellect and an excellent sense of humor. She enjoyed political satire and was up on current issues. She was a  very compassionate person.  Jane had a no-nonsense commitment to issues about just treatment of marginalized people and aware of issues related to all people of color, and those in the LGBTQ community. She often participated in events in the Baltimore-DC area supporting civil rights and justice.

One of Jane’s last places to work in the area of in-person, hands-on nursing was at Grass Roots in Columbia. There she encountered displaced individuals and families who were very poor. Her clients and patients appreciated Jane. The personal stories she heard there touched Jane deeply. Even during her own last months of illness, Jane would let her friends know exactly where she stood on issues of justice, and human rights.  Jane experienced the similarity in all of us through her patients and most of the wounded individuals she encountered. 

We hope we can all feel as deeply as Jane about the universality of all people and our common humanity. To Jane we were all each other’s brothers and sisters.

Dear, Sweet Jane! Thank you for being forever one of the most authentic, kind and true souls along life’s journey. From our time at McDonogh, I’ve so many cherished moments where you were the perfect boost of energy, laughter, and cheer to my day. I am grateful to have had you as a friend. May you rest in eternal peace. My prayers and thoughts are with with the Solberg family at this time.

I first met Jane at Bet Yeladim. Although I don’t remember much from then (besides these cute pictures), I was lucky enough to cross paths with her many years later at Camp Louise and McDonogh. She was the kindest soul, beautiful inside and out. I will never forget her laugh - the most contagious giggle that filled every room. My heart breaks for her family and friends. May her memory be a blessing.

Jane was a wonderful soul! Nursing school would not have been the same without her.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I was so lucky to have Jane as a friend, Bollywood dance buddy, and Hinjew at McDonogh and to have a friendly face at UMB when we were both in nursing/medical school. This is devastating. Sending you both love during this unimaginable time.

My deepest sympathy

To know her was to love her.  How could you Not she could make you laugh about stuff that wasn't even fun. She had a smile that would light up a room.  We weren't just co workers we were family.  I love you so much Jane Spain.

This was a fun evening in October 2023 with Jane and Judith at HCC. We shared a lot of fun and laughter that evening.
