Born on February 9, 1940, in Syracuse, New York, to Charles and Lois (Outt) Schmidt, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett Larue Callow, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage and loving memories.
Carolyn is survived by her sisters Lynne Viggiano (Rick) Wendy Jones (late husband Scott), and Charlene Schmidt; loving children Beth Callow, Lisa Wright (Paul Zajac), Christopher Callow (Tracy), and Kathryn Davis; her cherished grandchildren, Samantha Wright, Morgan Seibert (Jon), Gabrielle Callow (Noah Boothe), Abrahm Callow, Logan Davis, and Parker Davis.
Carolyn moved often with her family spending various years in Turkey and England and had the opportunity to travel to many countries and experience the world and finally settled in Columbia, Maryland in 1978. She built a long career within the Prince George’s County Public School System. Her love of flowers and her community were displayed at the First Presbyterian Church of Howard County, where she organized flowers for many years, bringing beauty to those who worshiped there. She was always passionate about reading and never went a day without reading a good mystery.
Once retired, she pursued her interests through the Dorsey Hall Garden Club and the Red Hat Society and enjoyed many luncheons and events with her friends. She also devoted countless hours with her husband Bennett as a volunteer at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, working both behind the scenes and sharing her interest in marine life with visitors.
A private family service will be held at the National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that her memory be honored by donations made to the National Aquarium in Baltimore’s conservation initiatives at:
