Carol Kinkade Mason passed away on October 23 while traveling with her husband, Mark E. Mason, in Rome, Italy. She was 76.
Carol is survived by her husband, Mark E. Mason, of Columbia, Maryland; her son, Stephen T. Bright, of Las Vegas, Nevada; her daughter, Sarah (“Sally”) L. Bright, of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister, Marie Kennedy Kinkade and her husband, Paul Peterson, of Alameda, California; her brother, Daniel VonWyck Kinkade and his wife, Patricia Lindsay Kinkade, of Greensboro, North Carolina; and her nephew, Daniel VonWyck Kinkade, Jr. and his wife, Lori Cochran Kinkade, and two great-nephews, Daniel VonWyck Kinkade, III and Elijah Paul Kinkade, of Malvern, Pennsylvania.
Carol was born on August 13, 1943 in Manhattan, New York to Harold James and Mary Teresa Kennedy Kinkade. She was the granddaughter of John Henry and Helen Wyck Kinkade of Meriden, Connecticut and Matthew E. and Marie O’Connor Kennedy of Elmira, New York. Carol grew up in Elmira, New York and attended The MacDuffie School for Girls (now, The MacDuffie School) in Massachusetts, graduating in 1961. She then attended the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina (now known as UNC-G) in Greensboro, North Carolina from 1961-1963 and obtained her B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1965.
Carol and her family moved to Columbia, Maryland in 1976 where she continued in her career as a social worker. She obtained her M.S.W. from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1994, proudly earning the certification of Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C). She retired in 2018 as a social worker at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup, Maryland.
Carol loved being a social worker and took great pride in positively affecting the lives of others. She especially cherished her relationships with her three best girlfriends, Ann Baruah, Jeannine Giffin and Janet Taddeo. She enjoyed keeping up with current events, traveling, and spending quality time with her friends and family. Most of all, Carol loved her husband, Mark, and her children, Steve and Sally. She took many trips to Las Vegas and Atlanta to visit her children. Carol will be remembered as fun, giving, loving, and caring. She loved her friends and family with all of her heart. Her husband and children remember her warmth, unwavering encouragement and support, generosity, hugs, and infectious laugh. She was one of a kind and is greatly loved and missed.
The family will receive visitors at Witzke Funeral Home, 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045, on November 21 from 6-8 pm. Her funeral service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 10431 Twin Rivers Road, Columbia, MD 21044, on November 22 at Noon. Burial will follow at Columbia Memorial Park in Columbia.
