Alvin “Ray Simmons was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 23, 1946, to the late Alberta White- Simmons and John Henry Simmons. Ray as he was affectionately called departed this life on August 31, 2021, he was the fourth of seven boys. Ray was preceded in death by Robert M. Simmons, Maclain J. Simmons, Jack J. Simmons, and John Simmons Jr. His unique relationship with his siblings as well as his mom was evident in the way he lived. He was full of life and possessed a magnetic personality that impacted everyone he touched.
Ray graduated from the high school Baltimore City College in June 1964. He went on to work for the Mass Transit Administration (MTA) for 34 faithful years and received various accommodations including a certification for Light Rail Operator. In addition to the MTA accommodations, he received additional recognitions and awards for his support and contributions to many clubs and organizations.
Ray had many loves of his life, one of which was family. Although he had no children, he thoroughly enjoyed all his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who felt his fatherly love & support in the relationships they held with him. Ray was famous for inspirational and encouraging quotes as well as his thought-provoking messages which consisted of “Leave me one, take care of yourself and the children, we’ll talk”. His appreciation for movies and music (R&B, Jazz, Country, etc.) all of which includes a beautiful range of timeless classics.
Ray was raised with the understanding that Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ exemplified a servant’s heart which led him to embody the heart of a servant. This then translates to him always being loving, caring, and hospitable towards others in many different facets. He enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family in a variety of ways, some of which included traveling, shopping, fine dining and sipping on an array of elegant wines. “Uncle Ray” and “Simmons” as he was affectionately called by many will be dearly missed by all. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: two brothers - Larry B. Simmons, Robert Lee Simmons, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.
