Dr. Alan W. Brownlie rejoined his faithful dog, Angus, to wander the hills and dales of the great beyond on October 17th, 2023. Born in Glasgow, Scotland 63 years ago, Alan immigrated to Western Massachusetts with his family in his mid-teens, making his way to Maryland in 1997 to begin a teaching position at Anne Arundel Community College.
Dr. Brownlie dedicated his life to education, earning a PhD from University of Massachusetts Amherst. He shared his passion for literature and learning as a college professor where he inspired countless students throughout his career.
Alan leaves behind his wife, Linda, of Columbia, Maryland. His parents, William and Jean, have passed on. His close friends Michael, Catherine and Sophie Shepard, Gerry Tetrault, and Pat Farrell join with his friends and colleagues in mourning his passing.
A memorial service to celebrate Dr. Brownlie’s life was held on May 21st, 2024 at Anne Arundel Community College. If you would like to a make a donation in Alan's memory, donations may be made to Anne Arundel Community College or Warrior Canine Connection or a charity of your choice.
Alan will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication to education, his great love of music, and his soft spot for the underdog will always be remembered. May his memory be a blessing.
