Wes was born in Southern California and welcomed into the family of Dwight and Della Ruth Golay. Growing up, Wes worked many jobs including assisting his father on construction sites, driving tractors, mowing lawns, professionally dishwashing at Loma Linda Community Hospital, and cooking at Naugles to save for his education and fun. After he graduated from Loma Linda Academy, he worked for his uncle in Washington State for almost a year training to be an orthotist prosthetist. When he returned to California, he attended Cerritos College and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics. He then moved to Japan to teach English for a year, where he met his future wife Kimie.
Wes originally planned to stay in Japan for another year, but God had other plans. After returning to California, Wes reconnected with Kimie and they soon got married. As newlyweds, he attended Cal State Dominguez Hills where Kimie spent many long nights typing his assignments while he dictated them to her the day before their deadlines. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in health sciences, Wes gained double certifications as an orthotist and a prosthetist.
While in school, he worked as an orthotist & prosthetist technician for the Loma Linda University Medical Center before starting his own business, Redlands Prosthetic & Orthotic Group, Inc. with Kimie. In 39 years of marriage and 33 years as business owners, Wes and Kimie went on to have 4 children, Zach, Amanda, Alyssa, and Annie, one grandchild, Emma, and a son-in-law Rashid.
In 2020, Wes retired and spent his time traveling around the world until receiving his diagnosis. Throughout his life, he visited over 20 countries with his wife by his side. He was known for his quick wit, curious mind, strong will, and spirited driving. Though his time was cut short, he impacted the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Please join us for a celebration of Wes's life on January 21st at 1pm in the main sanctuary of the Loma Linda University Church. If you’d like to share stories and/or pictures of Wes, please send them to [email protected]
