April 26, 1962 – August 20, 2016
Karen Mary (Hakala) Stratton passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in San Bernardino, California. Karen was a loving partner, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She was 54 years young. Karen was born on April 26, 1962 in Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Bitburg, Germany to Oliver Harold and Ruth Anne (Coomey) Hakala.
Karen grew up in Highland, California and raised her three children with her husband Richard (Pechinko) in Redlands, California. Karen was passionate about her family and friends. As one dear friend said, “Karen never met a stranger and always reached out to the new kid.” Karen worked for many years at Uncle Howie’s Pizza in Redlands where her coworkers and customers were so dear to her, and she considered them an extension of her family. She had an uncanny memory and knew everyone’s favorite meal. Karen and Richard loved to spend time with family and friends, especially hosting the Hakala & Stratton family birthday parties at Uncle Howie’s Pizza, and having barbeques/pool parties in their condo swimming pool area.
Karen is survived by her husband - Richard Pechinko Jr., her children - Brian (Stephanie), Heather (Jeff), Patrick (Krystle); her grandchildren - Alanna, Emma, Sophia, Leila, Brian, Blake, and Charolette; her sister - Maureen, her brothers - Harold “Skip” (Marcia), James (Debra), Michael (Diane), John (Alex), and Daniel (Lissa); as well as her nieces, and nephews.
Karen was predeceased by her parents – Oliver Harold and Ruth (Coomey) Hakala, her daughter – Ashley, and her niece - Katrina.
Karen was a wonderfully kind, humble, generous, loyal, and loving person to everyone who knew her. Her family and friends will miss her deeply, and will forever carry her in their hearts.
