Sonya Janice Katrib (Jan or Janice), 83, of Fontana passed away on January 6, 2023 from injuries sustained in a fall. She was surrounded with the love of family, near and far. She was a long term resident of Loma Linda until her recent move to Fontana, CA.
She was born to Babe Alice Ensley and Conley C. Ensley on July 6, 1939 in Longview, WA. Jan graduated from Columbia Adventist Academy in Battle Ground, WA in 1957 and received her BA in nursing from Walla Walla Adventist University. She later returned to school and received her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Loma Linda University in 1989, followed by her Nurse Practitioner degree in 1993. She worked in and around the Inland Empire as a nurse doing home care, hospice, Indian Health, and public health for Loma Linda University and San Bernardino County until her retirement in 2007.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Katrib and son Sean P. Kilty, as well as her parents and her brother Curtis C. Ensley.
Survivors include Sean’s partner Joanne Jenks, her daughter Kathleen T. (Kilty) Chilcott and husband Mark B. Chilcott, her daughter Alanna D. (Kilty) Heck and husband Travis D. Heck, grandchildren Ethan G. Heck, and Brittaney Teich and husband Ron Teich, and great-grandson Jayden Linda. She is also survived by Maurice’s children, his daughter Reem Katrib, and his sons Basam Katrib, and Ramy Katrib and wife Jaspreet (Dhillon) Katrib, and their son Leo Katrib.
Jan was a devoted woman of faith and an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist church. She had a zest for life and an incredible love of travel. Jan had a passion for service and spent her life healing and helping others. In retirement, she enjoyed the passions of stained glass and photography, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She was an adventurer and spent all of the time she could seeing the world with her girlfriends, who teased that she had a gypsy soul.
A memorial celebration service is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 13th in the Cypress Chapel at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary located at 24145 Barton Rd, Loma Linda, CA 92354. A graveside service will follow.
