Ismay Hyacienth Gittens was born on July 21, 1928 in Georgetown, Guyana (South America) to Mary McCulloch and Christopher Gittens. Ismay went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2019. She was the mother of 11 children: Beverly Munroe, Janice Lewis, Paulette Simon, Keith Gittens, Steven Gittens (deceased), Linda Moshette, Noel Gittens (deceased), Errol Gittens (deceased), Lorain Williams, David Josiah, and Paul Gittens. She is survived by her sister Mildred Dewsbury and preceded in death by 7 other siblings.
Ismay was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking and entertaining. Her infectious smile, pleasant personality, and her kind-heartedness brought so much joy to the family and anyone with whom she came in contact.
She was a devout Christian who ensured that her children were brought up with the Bible's teachings. She was the family historian who would relate stories about her childhood and life in Guyana.
Ismay was the beloved grandmother of 13 grandchildren: Jermaine Harmon, Don and Jae Moshette, Falon Lewis, Carey Gittens, Elizabeth Williams, Jaime Williams, Stephan Josiah, Johanna Lewis, Kristin Josiah, Lauren Williams, Kwasi Gittens and Jason Williams. She was the great-grandmother of 9 great-grandchildren:
Naia Harmon, Daniel Moshette, Joseph Moshette, Mila Harmon, Gianna Harmon, Jase Moshette, Jayden Williams, Joshua Moshette and Josiah Williams.
Ismay is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including the Dewsbury family, Gittens family, the Bacchus family and the Isaacs Family.
