Harold Eugene Stock was born July 9, 1921 to William and Blanche Stock in Manchester, Iowa. He was the 4th oldest of 9 Children 5 boys 4 girls. At a young age of 8 Harold’s Family endured the Great Depression. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps of Iowa at the age of 16. He then enlisted in the Army on July 13, 1940 and served in World War II. Early during his tour of duty he was stationed in Alaska including Ft. Mears Army base and Dutch Harbor Naval Base, Aleutian Islands before joining the US Troops in Europe and most notably participating in The Battle of the Bulge December 16, 1944 – January 25, 1945. Before being deployed, to Europe, He was stationed briefly in Ft. Chaffee, Fort Smith, AR. While in Arkansas Harold met the love of his life, Retha Fletcher. The two of them were married shortly thereafter on July 1, 1944. At the end of World War II Harold returned to Ft. Chaffee and lived in Fort Smith, AR until they moved to San Bernardino, CA in 1946 where they raised 2 daughters and a son. Harold worked as a chef in the San Bernardino County Hospital for 33 years then became an aficionado gardener of vegetables, with tomatoes being his specialty.
Harold is survived by his wife Retha of 70 yrs; daughters Brenda Sharp, Pamela Carlson and son Darrell Stock. Seven Grandchildren: Eddie, Kenny and Contessa Morris, Edward (Ted) and Aeriel Carlson, Jennifer Sprow and Jason Stock. Ten Great Grandchildren: Candice, Tiffany, Crystal and Kenneth Morris, Blake Sprow, Andrew, Trevor and Delaney Stock, Tim and Keith Morris. Two Great-Great Grandchildren Austin and Hayden Beard. Harold is also survived by two brothers Don Stock of Florida and Dick Stock of Iowa.
Viewing will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 with a Chapel Service at 10:00am on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 both at Montecito Valley View Chapel, 3520 E. Washington Street, Colton, CA 92324, Harold will be laid to rest at Montecito Memorial Park, Colton, CA
