Rex was born November 25th, 1935 in Vernon, Texas, to Stella Marydell Duncan and Manley Rex Roby. Both men went by their middle name.
Rex was raised in New Mexico where his parents served as schoolteachers.
Some of Rex's fondest memories were singing bass in the Ambassador Quartet at Pasadena College. The quartet represented the college at Nazarene churches all over the western United States. The college made a professional recording Rex's Senior year, but it was never published until recently.
On July 20, 1958, Rex married Lois Jean Reinmuth and had three children together, Jeff, Mark, and Renae.
In 1958 Rex was drafted into the army where he served as a Chaplain's Assistant. Stationed at Fort Belvoir, he spent 2 summers on the ice cap near Tule Air Force Base at "The City Under the Ice." where he organized the base's first library. His story has been preserved in the Library of Congress.
After serving his country, Rex taught 6 years at Woodland Park Elementary school in Colorado, then moved his family to Alaska to teach native children in Akhiok, Afognak, and Port Lions .
Loving education, Rex returned to California and earned his master’s degree in psychology then moved to Colorado where he served as Director of Special Education in Craig for a year and the balance of his professional career as a School Psychologist in Colorado Springs. He worked at School District 11, Pikes Peak Mental Health, and School District 20 (including the Air Force Academy). He was very gifted helping children, parents, teachers, and administrators in every aspect of education.
After retirement at 55, Rex used his self-taught building contractor skills to serve widows and families in his community and was a Santa Claus for a Mall in Minnesota with Naturally Santa, Inc. Rex was truly a servant leader.
Rex Roby Jr. is survived by his younger sisters, Delora Gastineau and Charlotte Wayman; his wife, Lois Jean Roby; his children, Jeff Roby, Mark Roby, and Renae Paris; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-laws; and grandson, Cameron.
