Dr. OJ was born in LaJara, Colorado where he graduated from LaJara HS, Valedictorian, class president, and star athlete. Following high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Franklin. He then attended Adams State College and graduated from St. Louis University School of Dentistry. He also served as an officer at Great Lakes Naval Base before setting up practice in Colorado Springs in July of 1971.
His passion for dentistry and people shone through his many accomplishments as an examiner for the Central Regional Board of the ADA, a position with the Colorado Dental Association, and recognition by Harvard Medical as among the top dentists in the country. More important to Dr. OJ was the care of the many patients and their families, over his more than 40 years of practice.
He shared his love for sports with all, supporting Palmer High School, St. Mary’s, and others, while participating daily in lunchtime racquetball and basketball at the downtown YMCA for more than 30 years. Later, he filled his free time traveling through Spain, Italy, and Mexico with his second wife Nona Faughnan, stepson Joshua, family, and friends or taking a quiet Sunday outing at a favorite fishing hole, sometimes not so quiet with the grandkids.
He created wonderful holiday traditions with his children and grandchildren while passing on countless family stories. He will be sadly missed by his children, Tricia Lucero-Blaikie, Teri Lucero-Hall and Stuart Hall, Toni Lucero, Tracey Lucero-Corsi, and Dewayne Corsi, grandchildren Stevie Lucero, Kalyssa Hall, Morgan Hall, Taylor Corsi, Jake Corsi, and Aila Blaikie. He also leaves behind sisters and brothers, Rubena Mojica, Cleopatra Santoyo, Steve Lucero, Sandra and Leonard Alfaro, Colleen and Albert Marquez, Lottie Grove, and their many children. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, all of whom he loved dearly.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 24th, 2021, at 11 AM and St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
