Mary Lawson Wills was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Dr. Edwin Hugh Lawson and Florence Balshaw Lawson. Mary was educated at Miss Aiken’s School, Isidore Newman preparatory school, Southern Methodist University and H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College, the coordinate women’s college of Tulane University.
Mary met Lee Roy Wills while pursuing a teaching certificate at the University of Colorado and they were married on October 9, 1954. The two lived in Boulder while Lee finished law school. Ater graduation, they moved to Pueblo where they lived for twelve years and began to raise their four sons. In 1968 the family moved to Colorado Springs where Mary finished raising her boys and lived for the next 55 years to finish out 90 years of a beautiful life.
Mary enjoyed many years of playing golf and was an avid duplicate bridge player until the last few months of her life. Mary also enjoyed American history and traveling to Europe and Asia. Her last trip was to the museums and memorials of Normandy. Mary belonged to Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Junior League, Tuesday Luncheon Club, Garden of the Gods Club and the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club.
Mary is survived by her brother Dr. Edwin Hugh Lawson Jr., her four sons and their wives: John Goddard Wills "John" (Lory), Hugh Lawson Wills “Lawson” (Sheila), William Andrew Wills Il "Drew" (Jeanie) and Charles Price Wills "Price" (Diane). She was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Stephen, Elizabeth, Darrah, Krista, Elle, Mat, Melissa, Cady, Heidi, Kyle and Emma and five great grandchildren: Davey, Lawson, Maggie, Inaya and Manali (with another great granddaughter on the way).
Mary was preceded in death by Lee, her husband of 50 years, her sister Virginia Lawson Witten, and her sister‐in‐law Sybil Wirth Lawson.
A small family service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church where her ashes will be interred in the columbarium with Lee. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bristol Hospice or Grace Episcopal Church.
