Mark Stockwell

Mark Lloyd Stockwell, beloved husband, father, ‘Papa”, son, and brother, left this world for his home in heaven on August 28th, 2016. He passed away peacefully at home, after a three month battle with two very aggressive cancers. Mark was born in Denver, Colorado on November 18th, 1953 to David Lloyd Stockwell and JoAnn (Gaulke) Stockwell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Lehnen, his father, David Stockwell and our two youngest children, Jessica and Matthew Stockwell. They had lost their battle to a rare disease that had resulted in both of their deaths. Mark had helped me to lovingly care for them during all their years of deterioration and I rejoice in knowing that they were there with the Lord to greet their Daddy, when he made his entrance into eternity. Mark graduated from Randallstown High School, in Maryland in 1970. He met his wife, Sally, when they worked together at Country Kitchen, in Brighton, Colorado. On August 13th, we celebrated 40 wonderful years together. While we had hoped that we would spend our 40th anniversary in Hawaii, it was spent, instead, within the confines of a rehab center. Mark became a Christian in February, 1978 and loved the Lord with all his heart throughout his life. He passionately volunteered for a number of Christian organizations throughout his life and finished out his career working for the Navigators, at Glen Eyrie, in Colorado Springs. Mark loved management and especially, project management. His career began in the oilfields in Brighton, Colorado, where he worked as a field foreman, eventually venturing out on his own, to start Stockwell Oilfield Construction. While he had a passion for managing the many sites that our crews built, he had a greater passion for spending time with his family. When the oilfields began to consume too much of his family time, various circumstances helped him to know that it was time for a change and we made the decision to sell and move to Colorado Springs in 1983. Mark eventually went on to a computer internship under Kevin Ward through the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Upon completion, he went to work for the United States Olympic Committee, eventually earning the role of Associate Director of Information Technology. After Jessica and Matthew passed away, Mark had a deep desire to work for a Christian organization, wanting to ‘labor for things eternal’. That desire was fulfilled in 2007, when he went to work for the Navigators. Every time I walk into the Glen Eyrie bookstore, I’m reminded that it was the first project that Mark had ‘laid his hands on’ when he went to work at the Glen. He served the Lord passionately, positively touching the lives of his employees and the many volunteers who assisted in the many and various project needs. Two years ago, underlying health problems helped us to make the decision to take an early retirement, for which I am so very thankful, because we had two wonderful years of being able to travel and focus on time with family and to volunteer his time for other ministries, in Colorado Springs. Mark was the kind of person who was always willing to lend a hand in any way that he was able. He was gifted in his ability to come up with a ‘fix’ for every little complication that arose as he worked on so many projects, in and around not only our home, but the homes of neighbors and friends. Mark was humble, and didn’t do very well with praise, always putting an end to praise with, “Just stop.” With that being said, I will end things here. On August 28th, the world lost a good man, a man of integrity, one who always looked for the good in everyone around him. He will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Sally Ann (Redalen) Stockwell, and his children Shawn Stockwell, Holli (Stockwell) Lucken, and also, Heather (Stafford) Jennings. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Nathan, Jonathan, Brittney, Megan, Jason, Joshua, Tabyana, Mya, Lorelai and Calli. He is also survived by his mom, Janice Stockwell, a brother Greg Stockwell, and his sisters, Charyl Strugalski and Jennifer Cole, not to mention nephews and nieces. He prayed constantly for all of us, and I have no doubt that he will continue to pray for us from his new home in heaven. So long, my love, you will be missed in ways that you would have never comprehended, not just by your family, but by all those whose lives you touched. I ended this with ‘so long’, not good-bye, because we will all meet again, one day, in eternity. A memorial service will be held at the Awakening Church, 3445 Oro Blanco Drive, Colorado Springs, 80917 at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7th.
