She was born July 25, 1921, at Bartz Memorial Hospital, Windsor, Colorado to Revilo L. and Lavernia Walter Reid. She grew up and attended schools in the Timnath-Windsor area and graduated from Colorado State College of Education in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts major in Literature and Languages and a minor in Spanish and Music, and in 1949 with a Master of Arts in English. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Theta Chapter and of Delta Kappa Gamma, Eta Chapter.
Miss Reid was a school teacher in Colorado Springs most of her career and retired in 1978 while at Mitchell High School. Miss Reid's career included a Fulbright exchange to Gilmore Secondary Modern School for Girls in Liverpool, England, English and Spanish teacher, and Foreign Language Department Head. She also played and instructed piano and organ. She served as organist or accompanist for all affiliated churches during her life. She served in numerous capacities in her church, First United Methodist, Colorado Springs.
Miss Reid traveled extensively and studied abroad in England, Spain, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, and attended multiple U.S. colleges and universities. Always a teacher, forever a student, she will be missed deeply by many.
She is survived by nieces Nancy E. Jackson of EI Paso, Texas, Charlotte T. Pirnat and husband Martin of Durango, Rebecca T. Paulson and husband Tom of Loveland, Tamara T. Redmond and husband Steve of Henderson, Nevada, Julie R. Hash and husband Dan of Helena, Montana, Gail E. Reid of Salem, Oregon, and nephews D. Reid Taylor of Arvada, and R. Scott Reid of Salem, Oregon. Miss Reid was preceded in death by her brother Robert E. Reid and her sister Margaret E. Taylor.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Larry Purvis officiating.
