Linda Lavern Johnson

On March 25, 1955, Linda Lavern Comer was welcomed into the world by her father, Nathaniel Vernon Comer, her mother, Charlotte Mae Comer, and siblings Patricia and Janet in Garden City, Kansas. She passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. She was the middle child of six children.

Linda was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel; her brother, Michael; her sister, Janet and her sister, Nancy. She is survived by her husband, Scott, her three sons, John, Nicky and Kelly, her stepson, Jeremiah, her mother, Charlotte, her sisters, Pat (Alan) and Nathia; 9 grandchildren; 3 nephews and 3 nieces; 7 great nephews; 1 great great nephew and 2 great great nieces.

Linda graduated High School in 1973 and left for the service right after graduation. She didn’t think there were any good male choices in Salida! She served as a supply clerk for the Army in Germany. She received numerous commendations for her service. She served her country with pride for 4 years.

Linda was a woman of many talents. She was willing to learn new skills and try new things. She used her knowledge and talents and took on many jobs to support her 3 boys as a single parent. Her three boys were her greatest accomplishment and she loved them unconditionally. She was a doting grandmother who loved her grandchildren. She spoke often of her nieces and nephews and absolutely loved hearing from them and keeping up with things going on in their lives. Her love of family was evident to all who knew her.

Linda was a truly great woman whose impact will be forever felt by her family and friends who love her dearly. She was selfless and always willing to give of herself to help those less fortunate. Her ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive and love will be forever engrained in everyone she knew.

Linda loved horses, she loved to travel and to spend time with family. She loved going on walks and watching wildlife. She and Scott would sit on their back porch and watch deer, antelope, coyotes, a bobcat, vultures and many birds. She loved to play darts and was very good, although seeing the dart board on the door in the house you wouldn’t be able to tell because there are a lot of holes in the door!

Linda worked for 6 years at Sandy’s Restaurant in Colorado Springs. She loved interacting with the patrons and called the other servers “her girls”. They not only worked together, they went out together and Linda was known to babysit their children when they didn’t have anyone else and needed to work. She was introduced to Scott through a customer who turned out to be a mutual friend.

On July 6, 2021, Linda married Scott A. Johnson. Linda said she found her “soulmate”. They spent the last two years enjoying life together.
