Leatrice Joy Thompson

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Leatrice “Lea” Joy Thompson, loving wife and mother, passed away with family at her side at the age of 85. She was born on November 13, 1936 in Enid, OK. Lea married Elgie “Al” Young and they raised two children, Evan and Cindy until he passed in October 1971. Lea met Russell Thompson through a mutual friend and they married on July 13, 1972.

Family and friends will forever miss her calming and compassionate spirit, and always remember her warm smile and kind heart.

She was a remarkable cook and well known for her amazing family dinners. Lea’s collection of recipes, from family and friends, was so extensive that she even wrote and edited a cookbook with her daughter. Her greatest loves were her animals and her family.

She is survived by her step-children Doug and Denise, grandchildren Kendra, James, Christopher and Darrah, and multiple great grandchildren and step grandchildren.

Lea was preceded in death by husbands Al, and Russell, children Evan and Cindy, and stepchildren Donnie, Debbie, and Danny.

A visitation for Leatrice will be held Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. A funeral service will occur Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. A committal service will occur Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
