Josephine passed away peacefully on May 6th, 2017 at her home in Yoder, Co. Josephine (Josie or Curly) was born May 9, 1925 in Tacony, present day community of Edison, South of Yoder, Colorado to Edward Charles and Dottie Owen (Hamilton) Gieck. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Edgar and Charles, sisters Marguerite, Dorothy, and Wilma, husband Paul Sopko Jr. and her daughter Sharon Sue (Sopko) Anderson. She is survived by her sister Georgia Lindt and two sons, Paul (Holly Gail) Sopko lll of Yoder and Joseph Edward (Marlynn) Sopko of Pueblo; six grandchildren, Kelly Anne (Veldon) Grasmick, Paul “Bud” (Jackie) Sopko lV, Amber (Glen) Marsh, Sandra (Cole) Gibbs, Lisa (John) Romo and Chad (Tina) Anderson; Fourteen Great-grandchildren, Cayla Grasmick, Garrett Grasmick, Paul Sopko V, Faith Sopko, John Tyler Romo, Aubree Romo, Emily Crites, Nate Gibbs, Rance Marsh, Jaron Marsh, Michael Lambert, Jessica Anderson, Leah Anderson and Lane Anderson. Josephine graduated in 1944 from the Edison School and would be a lifelong resident of the community. Josephine loved dancing, tending her flower gardens, quilting, crocheting, and was well known for her sewing and the ability to make clothing without using a pattern. She attended as many sporting events of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as was possible and was an avid race fan. She went on her first 4 wheeling trip at age 89, and was in awe at the beauty of the mountains. Josephine volunteered in the community and was always willing to donate one of her hand-made quilts or afghans to charitable raffles. She was a member of the Leader Methodist Church, attended Kendrick Bible Church in Rush and the 4 Bar S Gathering (Cowboy Church) in Pueblo.
Visitation will be May 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Interment will be at the Cemetery in Calhan on May 15th, at 9:00 a.m. A Celebration of life will follow at Kendrick Bible Church at noon followed by a reception. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill St. Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
