Loving, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in Colorado Springs.
“Fair Winds and Following Seas.”
John was born August 9, 1947 at St. John’s Hospital, Long Island City, Queens, New York to Frank W. Koch and Evelyn F. (Lehman) Koch. John lived in Brooklyn, New York until the age of 7 and then moved to Astoria Projects in Queens, New York.
John attend PS 171 Elementary, Junior High School 126 and Long Island City High School before joining the US Navy in 1965 to1968. He served on the USS Camden AOE2, USS Darby DF218 and his last assignment to Vietnam USS Wiltsie DD716, Vietnam Service Medal.
John is survived by his wife Bertha of 52 years and blessing of his two children: John Jr, spouse Karen Dixon Koch of Falcon Colorado, Audra D Lopez, spouse Chisum Lopez of Rush Colorado and two loving grandsons, Chisum (CJ) Lopez Jr. and Asher W. Lopez.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frank and sister Carole Hernandez.
John leaves behind cherished memories of his devoted wife, loving children John and Audra their spouses and his grandchildren, brother James E Koch, wife Mary, Jessica Marusezak, husband Michael, brother in-law William McGrade, brother Thomas, sister Lillian, brother in-law Neal McIntosch, brother Jack spouse Rosemary, brother Robert and sister in-law Katherine McIntosch Koch as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was self-employed carpet and floor installer. John attended the Nazarene Bible College. John and Bertha helped to establish and worked in multiple churches over the years. John was a devoted a Christian and shared his faith with everyone he came upon. John loved to camp and fish, as he would say “catching”. He loved his dog Penny. John volunteered assisting in coaching his son’s baseball teams, his daughters Girl Scout troop along with the multiple of other activities the children was involved with. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Girl Scouts of USA.

John will be having a visitation Wednesday 4/14/2021 from 4-7 P.M. at Mt. View Mortuary located at 2350 Montebello Square Dr. Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Services for John, will be held the following morning Thursday 4/15/2021 at 10 A.M. at Sunny Side Christian Church located at 2025 N. Murray Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO 80915. Following services, John will be laid to rest at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
