Jerry D. Salazar, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the age of 79. He was born on March 11, 1944 in Guadalupita, New Mexico to the late Jose Vicente Salazar and Amadita Cordova.
Jerry was raised in Monte Vista, Colorado. He met his sweetheart, Mary Ann Lovato, through her brother George and their first date was on the tennis courts. He graduated from Adam’s State College in 1967. He and Mary Ann were married on Thanksgiving Day November 1967. Jerry served in the Air Force from 1968 - 1972. After he was discharged, he and Mary Ann settled down in Colorado Springs where they raised their 4 children.
Jerry worked for Kaman Sciences as a computer programmer for 30 years working on defense contract projects including the B-2 Stealth Bomber. He retired in 2002.
Jerry thoroughly enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and golf. He had a passion for all things sports. He taught and encouraged all of his kids in their athletic endeavors throughout their lives. He was a coach to all. After retirement he began refereeing youth basketball where he continued to coach and teach. Most recently he and his occupational therapist were working to start a local Parkinson’s boxing program.
Math and numbers were also a passion for Jerry. He helped his nephews and nieces with their math homework and then later his kids. He was always calculating and figuring.
Jerry had a great sense of humor; he was quick with a witty comment and his great laugh will echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ann of 55 years; his four children Sandy (Mark) Edmondson, Donna (Chris) Salazar, Stephanie (Ken) Murray, and Rick (Bridget) Salazar; his grandchildren: Isabel, Ryan, Raleigh, and Reid; his brother Roy (Judy) Salazar and his sister Stella (Barney) Naranjo.
The visitation is to be held Wednesday June 21st from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with the Rosary starting at 6:00pm, at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 22nd, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
The burial will follow the funeral service at Pike’s Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80925.
