Jean is survived by her daughter, Elise C. Abramson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her sisters, Jane Long and Renae Heffernan of St. Louis, Missouri; and her grandchildren Justin, Sean and Nicole Abramson. She is preceded in passing by her husband, Thomas J. Sharp, and her brother, Jerome O’Hearn.
Jean was born on September 19, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph and Lula O’Hearn. She graduated from Hadley Technical School in 1949. Jean married Thomas J. Sharp, an electronics inspector, on May 30, 1959. The Sharps then began their married life in Miami, Florida where Jean continued working until the birth of her daughter on May 18, 1960. She then devoted herself to motherhood and used her lifelong skills as an accomplished seamstress to sew all of her daughter’s clothes for much of their lives. Jean became a grandmother in 1986 with the birth of her first grandson. She then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1991 with her daughter and family, where she gained her second grandson and her granddaughter. She joined the senior center, quickly made friends and found her flair for line dancing with the Golden Boot Scooters, performing at fairs and various events around the city.
Jean Sharp is remembered by her daughter as not only an exceptionally loving mother, but a close and dear friend. Her grandchildren will remember her as an unfailing source of cheer, comfort and Oreo cookies. Jean’s gift of gab and love of people inspired her to make all friends feel like family. Her great passion was ballroom dancing, which brought her joy throughout her long and happy life.
Jean’s family laid her to rest and celebrated her life with song and smiles at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
