James Allen Akers passed away April 5, 2017 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, after a short illness. Jim was born October 10, 1939 in Hooker, Oklahoma to Cecil Vaughn and Ida (Hohweiler) Akers. He is survived by his son, Ryan of the Calhan home, and a sister, Darlene Ansley of Three Forks, Montana. He married Eva Ann Grundeitz on December 29, 1977. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Mr. Akers was a member of Ellicott Methodist Church, Mountain View Grange, Pikes Peak Pomona, State and National Grange. He was a supporter of NRA, and volunteered many hours with Angel Food Ministries and Meals on Wheels.
Jim served a short time in the Air Force after High School graduation, and became a clerk with Civil Service. Jim and Eva enjoyed travels to Ireland and a cruise to the Baltic Sear area later in life.
A visitation will be held April 15 at Swan-Law from 2:00-4:00pm. The memorial service is scheduled for April 22 at Ellicott United Methodist Church at 10:00am followed with a lunch provided by United Methodist Women. Memorial gifts will be accepted by the Ellicott Church.
