Iona Dorothy Hughes

Iona Hughes (Henderson), 94, went to be with the Lord o May 20, 2022. She was born on January 11, 1928 in Drennan Colorado to Albert and Grace (Enoch) Henderson. She is survived by her 3 children James (Debby), Grace, and Dennis; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Iona was preceeded in death by her husband Gerald, her 2 brother Elvin and Dale Henderson and sister Norma Teakell, along with a great grandson Kaden.

She was raised on the family homestead in Drennan Colorado until she graduated from Drennan High School, May 15, 1945. After graduation she moved to Colorado Springs where she worked as a Switchboard Operator at Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company until she married Gerald Hughes on December 18, 1951. Iona and Gerald traveled thoughout the United States for 27 years while he was in the Army. After retirement they settled in Colorado Springs. In 1969, Iona took classes to become a certified nurse's assistant. She worked for 3 years at the hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas and then after moving back to Colorado Springs continued her Certified Nursing career at Eisenhower Hospital for 11 years.

Memorial Service will be held Friday June 3rd at 11am at Swan Law Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetey at 1230pm

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
