Harold Clifford Hitt, beloved grandfather, dependable husband, and honorable service member, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Marietta, Georgia, December 18, 1938.
Harold is survived by; Virginia Nix, Mark Grassel, Tom Grassel, Karen Grassel, and David Smith. He was preceded in death by Harold Clifford Hitt Jr and Nellie Ruth Hitt.
Harold led an exciting and honorable life in which he positively impacted everyone he interacted with. He will forever be characterized by his loving smile, attention to detail, and caring mindset of always lending a helping hand to everyone else prior to ever considering himself.
Harold truly began the adventurous portion of his life when he enlisted into the Unites States Air Force, 17 March 1956. Throughout his extensive service he held various positions supporting the flying mission of the USAF Special Operations Command headquartered at Hurlburt Field, Florida. He held an Air Force Specialty Code of 43191 – Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent and acted in an electronic warfare role. He shared many stories exemplifying his proud legacy, some of which included recanting the times his aircraft would be “chopping off the tree-tops of Vietnam and returning home with a fuselage that resembled swiss cheese”. Always pursuing excellence, he persisted his honorable Air Force career for a full 22 years to the date of 31 March 1978 wherein he retired at the distinguished grade of E8, Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt).
After his service to our country he focused his efforts more towards his local community where he opened his own branch of Farmers Insurance and made life long connections to the many patrons who lauded him as “more than just an insurance agent”. Often times when going about the community, we would run into one of his many clients who then would invite him to dinner or the next family barbeque.
Harold will be grievously missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His unyielding determination and compassionate consideration will forever distinguish him as one of the brightest/ strongest individuals you could ever be so fortunate to meet.
