Glenn was born on July 17, 1932 to Joseph Wolfe and Elsie Shoemaker, on the family's tobacco farm in Kentucky. Growing up in Memphis, TN, he attended Memphis State College where he was President of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He graduated from the University of Tennessee on a NROTC scholarship, receiving a BA in Business Management and Finance. Upon graduation, he went directly to Officer Candidate School (OCS) in the United States Navy.
Captain Wolfe served 32 years in the U.S. Navy as an Officer and a Fighter Pilot. He served with honor and distinction, having earned many awards, medals and decorations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal.
Captain Wolfe went on to serve as Commander of the island of Guam, where the locals were so fond of him that they named a cave after him, "Captain Wolfe's Cave." His favorite post was Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island Coronado, CA, where both his children Courtney and Brooks were born. He also loved the white sand beaches of NAS Pensacola, FL, where he served as the most popular Flight Instructor on base.
Captain Wolfe ended his service in the Navy working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he sold military aircraft to foreign countries all over the world. Before his retirement, Captain Wolfe was offered the promotion to the rank of Admiral, but opted instead to retire and made Colorado Springs, CO his home.
Flying was more than a career for Captain Wolfe, it was his passion. He was an eternal aviation enthusiast and owned several light aircraft throughout his life. He also enjoyed travel, culture, world affairs, and was an avid tennis player, taking home many tournament trophies.
His charismatic nature and jovial personality made Captain Wolfe a true character, beloved by everyone who knew him. He was a one-of-a-kind original, an extraordinary father, and touched many by his warm outgoing nature. The world has lost a truly great one, and his loss is irreplaceable.
On April 25, 2023 Captain Wolfe passed away in his home in Colorado Springs, CO, with his daughter Courtney by his side. His children and grandchildren will miss him dearly and carry him forever in their hearts.
Captain Wolfe will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, with full military honors presented by the Navy Honors Team at a later date to be determined.
