Erika Reichert passed away from cancer on Thursday, November 23 in Hospice Care. She was surrounded by loved ones at her time of death. Erika was born on May 15, 1941 in Dolores, Colorado where she was raised, graduating from Dolores High School in 1959. She then attended Colorado Women's College in Denver from 1959 to 1961, earning an Associate’s Degree. While attending CWC she met her future husband, Fred Reichert who attended Regis College at that time. They were married on August 11, 1962 in Cortez, Colorado beginning their 61 years of marriage.
In the fall of 1962, Erika and Fred moved to Provo, Utah where they both worked at St. Francis School where he taught and coached, while Erika volunteered at the school. On July 5, 1963 their first child, Walter was born. In 1964 the couple moved from Utah to Leoville, Kansas where Fred taught at Jennings Rural High School from 1964 to 1968 while Erika worked at home. On November 19, 1964 a daughter, Christa was born in Colby, Kansas. In August, 1968 Erika and Fred and family moved from Kansas to Boulder, Colorado where Fred took a teaching position at Boulder High School. In December of 1968 another son, Robert was born. As their children grew up, Erika began work in the Boulder Valley School system as an aide, then in several secretarial positions from which she retired in 1997. In 1999 Erika and Fred moved from Boulder to the Gleneagle area of El Paso County, Colorado.
There were a number of interests and activities Erika had in her busy life. She loved to quilt, making well over 100 quilts in her quilting career. She enjoyed traveling, with her favorite locations being Ireland, Nova Scotia, Disney Cruises, and Las Vegas. She loved being with friends talking, catching up and playing card games. Being with her grandchildren brought great joy and a sense of pride. She loved jigsaw puzzling with her daughter, Christa. She found her grand-cats to be mesmerizing. She was very good at video poker. Erika would not miss watching Ancient Aliens and The Curse of Oak Island. Each Sunday while her health was good, attending church services at Benet Hill Monastery brought great meaning to her and recharged her outlook on life.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Fred; Son, Walt (Tricia), grandchildren Grace Evans (Cody), Hannah Grove (Zach), Laura Reichert, Eli Reichert (Shoham), great grandchildren, Nash Evans, Nox Evans, Isla Grove, Nadia Reichert, Asmodeus Reichert and Adeline Reichert; Daughter, Christa Lundberg (Doug), granddaughters, Claire Herman (Wade) and Kelly Lundberg; Son, Robert (Leslie), granddaughter, Adeline Nicole Reichert.
Per Erika's wishes there will be no formal funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Her ashes will be interred in the columbarium on the St. Francis Campus in West Colorado Springs.
