Edward George Bircham passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 20, 2024, at the age of 87. Ed’s life was a testament to love for his family, dedication to serving his community, and loyalty to his employees. Ed was born on August 14, 1936, to Ivan and Rose in Timberscombe, England. Ed was predeceased in death by nine siblings. After completing his secondary education, Ed moved to London and worked for a publishing company. During his time in London, Ed played professional soccer for the Wimbledon Football Club in southwest London. At the age of eighteen, Mr. Bircham served his two years of National Service in the British Army as a medic. In 1962, Edward married his wife Peggy in England and moved to the United States that same year after obtaining his green card status. After working for SCM Corporation, an American typewriter and calculator manufacturer in the Midwest, Ed and Peggy moved to Colorado Springs in 1971. Mr. Bircham founded Bircham’s Office Products in Colorado Springs in 1978. After expanding operations over the years, the company moved to its current facility at the corner of Fillmore and Nevada in 1985. The company is still in operation today as Axis Business Technologies and is run by his son and grandchildren. Edward and Peggy became US citizens in 1993. Mr. Bircham was well known in the community, especially for his weekly newspaper ads which covered diverse topics of local and social interest. His ads always ended with, “Come on America, We Can Do Better than This”. Throughout his business career, Mr. Bircham donated office technology to local non-profits- a tradition that the company still supports today. Mr. Bircham was a sanctioned FIFA and CHSAA referee and officiated soccer in the community for over 40 years. Anyone involved in the soccer community knew “Ed”. Mr. Bircham dedicated his younger years to coaching soccer in the Colorado Springs community. Mr. Bircham loved the outdoors, especially mountain stream fishing. Mr. Bircham is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, son Gary (Belinda), son Paul (Quinn), daughter Jill (Shawn), and his loving grandchildren Riley, Camden, and Costner.
