Don Schinkel passed away January 6, 2012. He was born to Edward and Marie Schinkel on September 21, 1927 in Scribner, Nebraska. He has lived in Colorado Springs since the age of ten. He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Palmer High School. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He met and married his best friend and sweetheart in 1947, they were married 64 years. Don was with the Fire Department 31 years and retired as a Battalion Chief in 1987. He was an avid fisherman. He loved square dancing, playing pinochle and most of all being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, sons Jack and Bill, four grandchildren John, Jeff, Amanda and Michael, and four great grandchildren, Kyle, Kylie, Lucas and Bella. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Monday, January 9 from 5-7 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm at Memorial Gardens Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Cathedral on Tuesday, January 10 at 10:00 am, burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
