Dewey was born on September 23, 1933, the 5th child of William and Bessie Parrott. Born at home on the farm in Etowah, TN. Brothers and sisters James, Arrie, Elva (Jackie), Ruby and Kenneth all preceded him in death. Growing up on a farm is a hard life and an opportunity for creative fun. Including hunting, fishing, trapping, making a goat cart, and teasing his sisters with bugs and snakes. He adored his mother. Dewey played football at school and loved and respected his teachers.
In 1951 Dewey enlisted in the US Air Force and served a tour in Korea. He was honorably discharged and went on a yearlong hitchhiking tour of the US to clear his mind. In 1956 he joined the US Army. Dewey was stationed in Wuerzburg, Germany and met Theodora Hartmann. They married October 3, 1959. His son Michael (deceased) and daughter Susan were born in Germany. The little Parrott family were stationed in Colorado next and the youngest daughter, Karin was born. The family moved around with the Army until their final assignment returned them to Colorado.
Dewey served as a Radiology Specialist and Medical Senior Sergeant in Vietnam. He proudly served in radiology for the rest of his Army career. He retired in 1974 from Fitzsimons Army Medical Center.
He then took a job in maintenance with School District 11. He worked on and led maintenance teams in several elementary and junior high schools until he retired in 1986. Dewey and Thea loved Colorado. They bought a truck top camper and never looked back! They camped, hiked and explored the Colorado mountains for many, many years with their kids, grandkids, and dogs. Dewey loved getting Thea into the mountains, being with his grandkids, fishing, beating everyone at cards, working in the yard, talking about old times and cooking.
Dewey came into the Catholic church in 1971. The Parrott family helped to build the first Holy Apostles Church and later became members at Divine Redeemer Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theodora (Thea); His two daughters and son-in-law, Susan Parrott and Karin & Mark Pokorny, and daughter-in-law Ruth Parrott; his five grandchildren, Maryrose and husband Alex, Michael, Sarah, Bridget and Stephen; his first great grandchild, Arthur (newborn); and cousins, nieces, and nephews from the South and Germany.
