David Stephen Forbes, 75, was unexpectedly called to the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ on March 25, 2024. Born in Lachine, Quebec, to Steve and Dorothy Forbes on November 16, 1948, David's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, devotion and determination.
He attended American International College on a hockey scholarship, where he was named an All-American in 1971. He later played for the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals of the NHL, and the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA. David's professional hockey career spanned from 1973 to 1979.
After retiring from professional hockey, he began a second successful career as a financial advisor. He held a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) certification and later earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation. As the president of Petra Financial Advisors for 30 years, he championed the firm's mission and truly embodied its core values of building lifelong relationships, honoring God, loving others, and serving with excellence.
David’s commitment to his Lord and Savior was paramount. God saved him at age 28 and that became the cornerstone that influenced every aspect of his life, from how he engaged with his family to the way he conducted business. He helped found Hockey Ministries International (HMI), served on the HMI Board of Directors, pioneered a pro hockey Chapel service with his team in Cincinnati and later established the Chapel program for NHL teams. In 1977, he served in Montreal on the team that launched the first ever Christian Athlete Hockey Camp and later ran his own hockey camp in Colorado Springs for six years. His dedication to spreading the Word of God was further evidenced by his distribution of Bibles to NHL players, infused with personal notes that reflected his own journey of faith.
David is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 42 years, Lorra Beth, his four children—Matthew (Stacey), Anna (Chris), Emily (Jeremiah), and Jonathan (Laura) and his six grandchildren—Avery, Jacob, Iris, Miles, Audrey, and Maple. He often told his wife how blown away he was at the family the Lord blessed them with. His legacy continues through the lives of those he encouraged and inspired and the faith he shared so fervently. He walked closely with Jesus and was a guiding light to all who knew him.
A service celebrating David's extraordinary life and legacy will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Cross & Crown Church in Colorado Springs. The Forbes family welcomes all who were touched by David's life to join them in honoring a man whose existence was a beacon of hard work, faith, and a pursuit of excellence in all things as he daily sought to honor the Lord.
